Electric Salt and Pepper Grinders

One of the many advantages of an electric salt or pepper grinder is that it can be operated with one hand, this frees-up the other hand to move the food into position or turn over the meat for seasoning on both sides. Less effort and quicker for the chef who is preparing several of dishes and courses at the same time (see video left).

It’s not just the chef who will find an electric pepper mill useful – those who have restricted movement in their wrists and the elderly will certainly find the ease of use a huge benefit.

For the many recipes that require ground pepper, if you add freshly ground pepper you’ll notice the difference immediately and the quality and taste of your meals will instantly improve.

Salt, pepper, and spice mills, which are basically exactly the same as coffee grinders, often don’t have a handle, the whole top revolves instead. Although this is not as practical as a handle, only a couple of turns are needed to grind the salt or pepper. The ground salt falls straight upon the food getting seasoned.

A small number of mills have rough surfaces which don’t turn, each press of the grips moves just one flat plate against another, then the plates are returned to their first location by a spring. Quite a few hard spices are on the market in pots including a straightforward cone burr grinder, designed to be thrown away when empty.
