All Cole and Mason standard mills are fitted with their own design registered mechanisms.

Just A Few Turns
Salt, pepper, and spice mills, basically are exactly the same as coffee grinders and often tend not to have a handle, instead the whole top revolves instead.

Even though this is not as comfortable to dispense the pepper or salt, only a couple of turns are necessary to grind enough for the purpose. The ground pepper falls straight upon the food getting seasoned and the mill has no container.

A small number of mills have rough surfaces which don’t turn, each press of the grips moves just one flat plate against another, then the plates are returned to their first location by a spring.

Quite a few hard spices that are on the market, are in storage containers including a straightforward cone burr grinder, designed to be thrown away when empty.

The majority of pepper mills can be altered to set the coarseness of grind. A Cole and Mason pepper mill is particularly effective at adjusting the fineness of the pepper.
